This photograph was taken at the end of winter during an 18 mile hike through an alpine lake basin in the Cascade Mountain range of Washington. This was the first time that I had made this trek and I was exhausted. I took a quick dip, naked, in one of the freezing alpine lakes. Moments later, this mountain goat came casually walking out of the thin tree line to greet me. For the next two days I was immersed in a snowy and stormy world with only the fearless mountain goats and birds to keep me company.
