I was early into working on my series Red Orange and was beginning to experiment with colored gels shot at sunrise and sunset. As a fan of the otherworldliness of the joshua tree, I set out early one morning to attempting to photograph various trees during my small window of time. This particular tree, off the roadside in Rimrock, California, was one of the first I shot that day. With the sun having yet to begin its ascent, I chose blue hoping to subtly capture the abstract gesture of the tree compared to the sky.
