For a time, I was spending my days off from work driving out to random events I had learned about from the internet. One of those events was a monthly rocketry meetup in the Mojave Desert, specifically located at the Lucerne Dry Lake. During one of these meetups, one of the participants said something like, “If you really want to see some rockets, you should come to LDRS.” LDRS is an acronym for Large Dangerous Rocket Ships. I immediately reserved time off work for the nearly week long event in an effort to get some practice with focusing on a single photographic subject matter. I would go to the event for the day, which would last from morning until afternoon, and then retire to my hotel room afterwards to retreat and recover from the brutal dry desert summer heat.
