DETAILS:

Welcome to the world-famous, never-equaled Critical Tits parade at Burning Man. The idea and name came from Critical Mass in San Francisco, the annual bike parade that wanders the streets on the last Friday of each month, with nobody in charge.

The twist at Burning Man is that all the bikes are ridden by women, thousands of them, who pedal in a lovely, topless ad-hoc parade around the playa. I shot this image respectfully from a high vantage point showing the trail of riders snaking from the main allee out onto the open playa. In the parade women socialize and seek personal empowerment. Critical Tits (The Ride) honors women for being themselves and for their achievements.

Their presence is keenly felt through the concept of the piece: while it provides mere glimpses of women off in the distance, their magnetism fills the image with spectacle and wonder.
